The first day of Spring 2015 in Italy! How exciting that we can finally sow seeds outdoors without worrying of dangers of frost. Unfortunately, our garden faerie Alisha has not been feeling well, so she couldn't join our adventure today.
Brought outside my Lemongrass, assuming it should be fine. I also noticed that I might have actually grown a Bay baby tree without realizing. The seed from last year must have germinated over the Winter and now it has developed into something I could identify.
I went to check my unheated greenhouse and to my greatest shock, it has been infested by snails.
Caught red-handed |
These snails could have been multiplying in the greenhouse too! The snail repellent failed to repel any of them, and these pests are happily eating the baby plants I have in there including Carrots, Bellis Perennis, the sickly Rhododendron impeditum and Alisha's Marguerites, which I hoped to bloom in Summer next year.
I got so upset, so I brought back inside a few small pots, planning to start more seeds indoors this time. The snails have been out of control. They can't be repelled; they even left slime trails on the repellents, like they don't care.
If you are living in Italy and happen to search for a good solution for snails and slugs, Flortis is a BAD brand. Never waste your money on it. Simply go for Bayer's organic solution, which I'm going to get after this. We'll see how the product works. I've always trusted Bayer for my gardening stuff. These snails should be eradicated!
So I guess no matter what, I still have to start my seeds indoors until my snails problem is solved. Meanwhile, my Ranunculus asiaticus (Persian Buttercup) is showing signs of growth after two days planted from bulbs.
I took a few Daffodils from the sidewalk for little Alisha. Hope she gets better soon. We miss her in the garden.
